Fun Souvenir Project

While we were camping, the kids and I scoured the shore line for some pretty driftwood. We knew we wanted to do something cool with it to remember our trip. This is what we came up with. It was really simple and we just used what we had on hand!

Items needed:
2 pieces of pretty drift wood
2 scrap pieces of 2x4
2 chop-sticks (fresh and new, though you could recycle used ones I guess!)
(We only used chop-sticks because we didn't have dowels...we improvised, but you can use a dowel if you want to!)
2 label plates
black paint

We drilled holes in the 2x4's and the drift wood to fit the chop-sticks. (We drilled the hole in the drift wood a little bigger than the chop-sticks so we didn't damage the wood trying to get the chop-stick to fit.) Cut chop-sticks to desired height and hammer into 2x4's. The boys painted the 2x4's and the posts. (Not a very smooth paint job and they missed spots, but I think it adds character!) Print desired description for souvenir and fit to label plates. (We put the date on one label and some of the highlights of the trip on the other.) Attach label plates to (dry) 2x4. Finally, slide the pretty drift wood onto the posts. Wallah...your very own beautiful souvenirs!

ooo ... I love the way your driftwood project turned out! That is such a cute and creative way to remember something so fun! I love it! And I loved looking through all the amazing pictures from your family campout! It looks like you all had SO MUCH FUN! We ended up postponing ours to the next weekend, soooo that was a bit of a bummer. But I'll try to be good and post my blog in as timely a fashion as you did -- you are so good. I'm still catching up from last month's events! Anyway, yes ... we need to get the boys together for some fun. Do you think they might want to check out a museum or something fun like that? Give me a call ... :)

What a great idea. I am constantly amazed by what you do. You have the eye of an artist and it shows. Your trip looked like so much fun. Great pictures of your kids. You are such a great mom and always seem to stop and see the beauty and happiness around you. I really admire that about you. I will take your worda about counting blessings to heart. We miss you so much!

Only you could be so creative! Ok you and your creative sisters and mom! What a fun trip! I loved ALL the pictures. You guys are the best and we miss you! Luke asked who the other little boy was with your family. I told him it was "baby Ty" and he couldn't believe that he has grown! :)
Love ya!

Wow, those drift wood pieces look so great! I love decorating with things that actually mean something to the family. Your pics and post make me want to take the boys camping now. If only it wasn't 90 degrees out.
